Jeff Berg has immersed himself in many diverse aspects of commercial real estate throughout his nearly 30-year career. He has applied a creative passion and business acumen to projects that range from planning and executing market strategies for top-of-class retailers, to the planning, entitling, leasing, financing and selling of ground-up development and redevelopment projects.
Jeff is a Kansas City native. He is a proud graduate of the University of Michigan (GO BLUE!) and then attended the Columbia University School of Law in New York, where he graduated with high honors in 1989. Jeff returned to Kansas City and first practiced as a real estate attorney with Kansas City’s largest law firm, and then with Applebee’s International. Applebee’s became Jeff’s first client when he switched to the transactional side of the business in 1995 — which helped spur his retail focus.
Since that time, Jeff has represented many of the nation’s and region’s retailers as they execute their real estate strategy in Kansas City and other Midwest Markets. He is honored to work with national retailers such as Dick’s Sporting Goods, Costco, Target, PetSmart, At Home, Chase Bank and Chick-fil-A.
Through his career, Jeff has been particularly driven by the challenges and opportunities to acquire and improve existing commercial properties, along with the dynamics of developing new projects. Jeff was a partner in the $63.5M acquisition of three iconic Kansas City-area shopping centers (featured as a Wall Street Journal Deal of the Week), and the subsequent transformation that was extremely well received by tenants, residents and shoppers. Jeff has also acquired and developed investment properties with partners and clients, including retail, mixed use, and multi-family projects.
Jeff is married to another Kansas City native, Jamie. Together they have a son and daughter — both high school students — and two Labrador retrievers. Jeff is a car buff, enjoys both cooking and eating great meals, and then somewhat enjoys swimming to burn off the calories from those meals.
I’ve learned more from my clients than they’ve learned from me. They taught me that “good enough” is NEVER good enough. At Elevate, we take that to heart. We strive to answer our clients’ questions before they are asked and resolve issues before they arise.
